Today in Poland, many people are celebrating All Saints’ Day. It is a special day in the calendar in Poland. Traditionally, people go to visit cemeteries, lay flowers and light up candles. Families and friends gather and pray together around their relatives’ graves. It is a special day of memory when people recollect those who passed away.
The History of All Saints’ Day in Poland started in the 9th century. In the beginning, it was a day mainly to remember those who sacrificed their lives for the Christian faith.
In 2020, people could not celebrate All Saints’Day in Poland as they used to do. Regarding the pandemic of the COVID -19 and restrictions introduced by the Polish Government, all cemeteries in Poland were closed.
So, for many Poles, this is an even more important day this year.
According to analysts’ estimates, in 2021, Poles will spend around PLN 1 billion on flowers, candles and decorations for All Saints’ Day.
1st of November in Poland is also an official national public holiday when people do not go to work.
